Do you want to influence the university in a more sustainable direction?

Management, staff and students have a shared interest and work to do in ensuring that Aalborg University moves in a more sustainable direction, in terms of research and education, but also in relation to the operation of the university.

At its meeting on 30 September 2019, the Rector’s Office decided to set up a sustainability forum at Aalborg University: "Sustainable Campus, AAU" to promote effective and sustainable transformation of the operation of the university.

It was also decided that the broader sustainability effort become an essential element of the future strategy for AAU, making it an integral part of research and education activities. The fact that this will be formulated later should not delay doing anything about operations in the here and now.

On 11 December 2019, the Main Joint Consultation Committee discussed establishing a sustainability forum that would report to the Campus Service management which is already responsible for operations related to buildings and land.

COLLECT AND FORMULATE OVERALL IDEAS AND RECOMMENDATIONS FOR SUSTAINABLE CHANGES ON CAMPUS

The forum is supposed to collect and formulate overall ideas and recommendations on how all staff and students can contribute to changes in campus operations to reduce the university's overall climate footprint and generally support the 17 UN sustainability goals.

The forum can thus propose more sustainable campus operations such as land use optimisation, energy renovation and optimisation, waste sorting, changes in the operation of green spaces, more natural areas on campus, environmentally friendly cleaning, less food waste and single-use cutlery in canteens, etc. As a general rule, the forum holds meetings every six months.

The aim is to organise meetings to accommodate the use of video conferencing for participation from Copenhagen and Esbjerg. Ad hoc meetings and thematic discussions may be held as needed.

HOW TO JOIN SUSTAINABLE CAMPUS, AAU

If you want to be part of the forum’s work, please submit a short application explaining your motivation. No special skills are required – the most important thing is your commitment and ideas.

FORUM MEMBERSHIP

The forum for the development of a sustainable campus AAU is put together based on geography, not by staff groups, so everyone is welcome.

The staff members on Main Joint Consultation Committee appoint five staff representatives: one representing Aalborg City Campus, two representing the main campus in Aalborg East, and one representative each from the campuses in Copenhagen and Esbjerg.

The student members of the Study Environment Council, as well as the student representatives of the campus councils for Copenhagen and Esbjerg, designate a total five students with the same geographical distribution.

The heads of the campus (or their deputies) in Copenhagen and Esbjerg are also members of the forum. The forum is headed by the campus director (or their deputy).

Secretarial services and other similar tasks are handled by Campus Service. Members are appointed to a two-year term.
